The Problem of Good

In our 10th episode of season 1 of the Up Your Dialogue podcast we discuss the problem of Good and the practical impacts of this on society as well as some theological concepts. As always we look through the 2 lenses of Agnosticism and Christianity when viewing the topic.
As per usual we start off with political events and this time specifically a look at an article from The Atlantic written by Yoni Applebaum that pontificates on “How America Ends”. We move from there to talk a little about Trump and his potential election in 2020 and why or why not we voted for him in 2016.

At around the 39:30 mark we get into the topic at hand with some definitions of “good” and “the good”. From there we hear both the Agnostic view that takes a favorable approach on the completeness theorem idea of “objective good” from famed Mathematician and philosopher Kurt Godel, as well as the Christian worldview that attempts to show how completeness is achieved in the transcendent.

The problem – Can objective moral values (goodness) exist without God? You decide.

Cults, Religions and Governments

On the 9th episode of the Up Your Dialogue podcast we explore the issue of Cults. As we do so we also get into Religion and how governments have interacted with both through various times in history. Just after the 44.30 mark we discuss specific cults from an infamous list that J.Scott brings to the table. Of that list we move into more general Christian and non-Christian cults that some consider Religions such as Mormonism by the 1 hour mark.By the 1 hour and 20 minute mark we are talking about the spiritual fate or Mitt Romney and the rest of the time we go into history and talk about Christianity from it’s early days as a “Superstition” as stated by Pliney the Younger to Constantine and all the way to the founding fathers. We hope you enjoy the podcast.

Open Dialogue

In the seventh episode we introduce our open dialogue format where there is no specific topic. We have an open dialogue where anything goes. We ended up giving updates on our new twitter account that is already closing in on 300 followers and our new “Up Your Diablog” where we will be putting our thoughts in written form. The new website is still at upyourdialog.com. We also talked about the crazy world of #Twitter until about the 37 minute mark. After that we discussed the new book by Peter Boghossian @peterboghossian and James Lindsay @ConceptualJames called How to have impossible conversations until around the 55 minute mark. We gave the book an endorsement just as Richard Dawkins has which shows how the book transcends lenses. The rest of the podcast focused on the Democratic Primary and a closer look at the insanity that most of the lower tier candidates have become. Our focus was on them since we will not be seeing much of them soon.
